In a beautiful coastline, where the diversity is surprising, there is a succession of bays with crystal-clear waters, where from south to north white sandy beaches give way to pebble beaches. You can relax on one of the many beaches that follow northwards to the picturesque Isola Bella on the coast of Taormina.
The nearest beach is pebbly and is 3 km from the farm (Praiola- Carrubba). Further north are Marina di Cottone, 10 minutes away, and San Marco, 15 minutes away, which are extensive pebble beaches. Twenty minutes by car you can enjoy the sea at Taormina, a true pearl of the Mediterranean.
Moving southwards towards Catania, the coast is characterised by lava cliffs formed over the centuries by the contact between the magma of the eruptions and the sea water, where the black of the rock stands out against a cobalt blue expanse. It is framed by ancient tuna-fishing nets, picturesque fishing villages, nature reserves and volcanic rock cliffs, on which you can visit Norman castles.
A few kilometres away are the villages of Torre Archirafi, Pozzillo, Stazzo, Santa Tecla, S. Maria la Scala, the protected marine reserve “Isole dei Ciclopi” with the mythological stacks of Acitrezza (15 km) and Acicastello with its Norman castle (18 km). A little further south of Catania you will be enchanted by the expanses of fine sand of the playa and the beaches of the Syracuse area.

The Agriturismo San Leonardello is a charming and lovely place with a welcoming and very friendly family as hosts. The grounds are beautiful with lots of lemon- (and other) trees, charming simple rooms, a delicious homemade breakfast, a very nice pool and stunning views of Mount Etna, the sea and Taormina. It is a rather quiet place (apart from the lovely but during the nights incessantly barking dog), which we love, and a good starting point for trips to Catania, the Etna, Taormina and many more delightful places. We also drove to Caltagirone, where the famous ceramics are made and to beautiful Syracuse. We personally would have liked it if there would have been a nice little village with some cafés one could reach on foot and have some nice walks, but the next village doesn't offer much in that respect and I would not recommend walking the small distance along the small yet quite frequented and dangerous road. So if you don't mind either taking the car for everything you want to do outside the Agriturismo or spending lots of time on the grounds of it, which would have been absolutely lovely had the weather been better (we had the bad luck of being there during the recent "Medicane" with lots of rain and thunderstorms), this is a wonderful place to be, a proper little paradise. I can only praise the owners for their friendliness and the care they take to make the place special and charming and to suggest special destinations to their guests - it was always a pleasure talking to them!

We loved this place. It is perfect for families- my children are 12, 10 and 8 years old. the host Vera was so friendly and helpful and gave us an incredibly warm welcome to Sicily. The property is surrounded by lemon groves, fig trees, olive trees and has gorgeous sea views as well as Mount Etna. The shared pool is lovely and mostly we had it to ourselves. The breakfasts and optional evening meals were superb. Opportunities to do a cooking course there too. The main road is quite near but doesn’t really detract from the charm of the place. My daughter loved their pet dogs particularly 16 yr old Lulu! The location is perfect for day trips to the gorgeous volcanic coastline, excursions to Mount Etna, Taormina, Catania, wine- tasting, Etnaland (children’s adventure park) Highly recommended.

Translate this text

More info
We are Vera and Saria Calabretta, and since we were little we have breathed in the scent of orange blossom, the flower of the lemon tree. The love for these places has led us to want to continue a story rich in emotions and traditions. These lands on the slopes of Etna were bought at the end of the 1800s by our grandfather Rosario Calabretta, a descendant of a family of citrus exporters.
Many of the plants still present in the garden are the same ones planted and cared for with love and passion by our grandfather. In the early 1900s lemon cultivation was so predominant in this part of Sicily that the whole Ionian area is still called the ‘lemon Riviera’.
Since 2000, thanks to an idea of our parents and driven by the desire to share and enhance this place that is dear and special to us, we have decided to start an agritourism activity. The houses that now welcome our guests were the country houses where the family used to gather and spend most of the summerWe are very proud to preserve this historic garden and have decided to produce by limiting the environmental impact according to the method of organic cultivation (ICEA certification).
Environmental sustainability and the desire to preserve the history of this place have always guided our choices.
